Old San Juan's blue street cobblestones

In the 1700's these pavers were brought from Europe as sailing ship's ballast. They were traded to the islanders for sugar cane. They are lovely. Those are palm tree shadows along the right side.
Great composition. I don't think I've seen blue cobblestones before.

@henrir @claudiet @littleconnie Thank you so much for your great comments. The original pavers were made from iron slag, hence the blue color. Hard to imagine metal pavers, but they've sure held up well, over 300 years. They are just now starting to replace some that are worn through.

@nicolecampbell @stray_shooter @Weezilou I usually look up when I'm touring but the ship travel lecturer told us about the pavers. I couldn't wait to find them!
