The Greeks in the 15th century named these flowers - “chrys” means golden - its original color - and “anthemion”, meaning flower. They’re the birthday flower for November, the 13th wedding anniversary flower and the official flower for Chicago. Japan holds a Festival of Happiness” to celebrate this Flower each year. The one thing I do know is that they are hardy, I pay them no attention all year and every fall they burst forth with gorgeous blooms.
Just simply gorgeous! So you have them planted in your garden year-round, Lou Ann? We typically purchase them in the spring and plant them in our garden for the spring/summer season but then they die. They do not winter over here. I love seeing their sunny little faces now:)
@365karly1 These mums are planted by our mail box. I trim them back in late winter, plant annual flowers, then when those quit spring and summer blooming and die back the mums start turning green and getting buds. It’s amazing to see how big and beautiful the plant is, with absolutely no attention to its needs!
Thank you for your wonderful comments, these are the one bit of fall color I can count on every year.
