You pass miles and miles of these fields that farmers have cleared of Mesquite trees and planted grass for their horses. Those are rolled hay bales on the distant field. They will be sold to cattle farmers before winter. This is the flat landscape of north Texas.
As unlike a Texas scene I would imagine! Funny how we have this idea that Texas is all hot desert & cacti! This is a real country scene that we would find over here!
I love scenes like this. When I left the bustle of Austin last month, I took Route 290 east to Cypress, Texas. I was so relieved to see country like this again!
@happypat when I was young my neighbor had some visitors from New York who were so disappointed that we didn’t use horses for transportation and we didn’t all wear cowboy hats and boots. Texas is so big, 269,000 square miles, to be sure there are huge areas in far West Texas, particularly southwest Texas, that are desert. Where we live, north Texas, has a lot of farm land. The further east you go, the greener the land. We have as diverse a landscape as any place in the world. When Jerry and I married he asked if I would live anyplace besides Texas and I said no. Texans are a proud lot! 😊
I love seeing these pictures because whenever I hear "Texas" I think of cattle ranches and brown earth. Now I don't do that so much anymore. Pretty shot.
@louannwarren Well that’s lovely to hear Lou Ann…..it’s good to love & be proud of where you live. Harry & I have never lived anywhere other than a radius of around ten miles in all or lives. I always loved The Yellow Rose of Texas ….that must be you Lou Ann!!
