Bike Trail by maggiemae

Bike Trail

This is part of a bike trail just near our property that is going to be part of a larger bike trail, called "Alps to Ocean" It starts by our largest mountain Mt Cook ( not up it but near) and goes past several lakes, through farmland, orchards, vineyards and nearer to Oamaru, unusual rock formations called Elephant Rocks. It comes out just down from here, continues into Oamaru and goes through the historic area, round the harbour and finishes at our Little Penguin site. Over 300km it is best taken over five days.
Beautiful trail. I like your comp here.

What a wonderful bike trail that will be when finished! We have a very nice one in Ohio called "Rails to Trails" - they keep adding bits and pieces and someday hope to cover the whole state.

Maggiemae .. this is beautiful. Soft and it draws you in. I am also impressed that you must have been on the ground to take it. Something I cant do these days. The composition looks great from down there

@kcman5 Yes, you are right, Cathy - lying on the trail balanced on one elbow. I can assure you it was hard to get up!

Great composition Maggiemae, and very nice soft processing. Getting down is the easy part, getting back up seems to cause the difficulty!!!!

Thats a fairly substantial cutting, I wonder if it was once a road or a railway line...

Sounds like it would be an awesome adventure. Love this pic, especially the effects you have used, almost looks like it could be an oil painting.

@asutherland1964 Yes, Andrew, it once took the engines pulling the coal from inland (don't think it was gold)

I love the colors and pov on this. Lyn mentioned Rails to Trails- it's a national program here in the States and there have been many old RR tracks that were converted thanks to it. This shot reminds me of a portion I was on out on Cape Cod. Beautiful scenery and nice capture! (Well worth the trouble it took to get back up!)
