All my lovely Akaroa photos simply have to find a space to be posted! This is further down the harbour than the last one I posted - on 12th May. People were breakfasting out on the footpath from a cafe and tourists were wandering around learning about the blue pearl -
New Zealands Eyris Blue Pearl, is cultured in our native species of abalone, Haliotis iris, or Paua, one of the most colourful of all abalone species. Harvested from wild stock abalone, these delicate molluscs are cared for at ocean based blue pearl farms by teams of dedicated aqua culturists.
Akaroa blue Pearls Ltd have been quick to embrace this new gem, seeing the design opportunity in using the amazing spectrum of colours to create unique, one of a kind, jewellery items.
@havrotb I did think of taking a picture of some of the jewelry but then decided it needed a bit of extra care. No, Barbara, I don't have any of these - too expensive!
