Under the cloud lies a town

This particular morning there was heavy fog then it disappeared. Further down the valley and over the sea there was this thick layer of cloud! Never seen it like this!

I think they call this an inversion. I have never been lucky enough to see it but I have seen lots of photos of the phenomenon. Alexis who lives in Vancouver has put a few up. A wonderful capture Maggiemae! It looks like the sea!

we get inversions in the winter and it will actually be warmer up high than below where the cold air gets trapped.

optical illusion
The fog over the sea makes the town look like its covered in a soft thick blanket of clouds..
in almost 30 years, I only saw one fog produced optical illusion over our bay. it looked like there was an island where there was not suppose to be one. I fav. your picture.
