The top photo was taken 60 years ago when my family came to stay in this Dunedin, NZ hotel to attend the Boronanski Ballet Concert! That is our car there, a Chevrolet 1937. I think it is my sister standing there.
The bottom photo was taken yesterday with our car there - parked facing the other way as you couldn't drive from left to right!

Lots of fun when I was a child - probably raced down the long passages and had to use a shared bathroom down the hall which was also exciting. Of course we all had dressing gowns. And in the morning a tea trolley noisily trundled down the hallway about 7am, a knock on the door and you were asked if you wanted a cup of tea! Not today!
What a wonderful then and now diptych! It doesn't seem to have changed much in 60 years!

How neat!

How little has change in the photo but what changes you must have seen during the intervening years.

What great memories and love the old shot. Your car was great. Much sleaker vehicles now, but I love the old style.

Amazing to see the comparison, not much at all has changed. What was the color back in the day?
May 14th, 2015
That is so interesting. Nothing much seems to have changed, except perhaps the color. What color was it back then?

Great shots and comparisons

Well other than the color it doesn't look like it changed much- which I think is a good thing. I like the style of this building. Great collage!

@skstein I don't know Sandy - probably from the look of the photo - just concrete coloured!

Wow, what an amazing photo to have.
Too bad so many of the old services have gone

@digitalrn The building itself hasn't changed I expect being concrete but the beds are modern and not saggy in the middle, there are no candlewick bedspreads and there are plugs in the walls now!

Well done! Nice to remember

How cool to have the two picture of the same hotel 60 years apart!
May 14th, 2015
Great job of choosing the same vantage point as in the old photo! Love the old cars!

How wonderful to have these two shots 60 years apart and it's your car outside both times! I love the look of your old car! Great memories for you!

Amazing job , Maggie! These pictures has very nice warm feeling. Its nice when we can see the same object in different times.
May 14th, 2015
How great to be able to do this Maggie. Love the fact that you've managed to get your own car in both shots.

Buildings do not change but expectations do. How lovely to have this comparison

t@shirleybankfarm Thanks Shirley - you are so right! Bring it back to the simple!

@thistle One is very economical and one is not! One has tons of room and always boiled on the hills and we had to get out and wait for hours!

What a fabulous comparison shot! Very interesting to see how little the structure has changed.
May 14th, 2015
it appears the new car would fit inside the old one.

I love the comparison. The dark windows in the top make it almost look like a derelict building (or a could-pass-as one). Good choice to go with color in the bottom.

Lovely shots to reminisce with, how times have changed, you don't get service like that anymore

Fabulous step back in time.
