Bike Trail by maggiemae

Bike Trail

This one of the first photos I took here beside the mighty Waitaki River! Ruby, my trusty electric bike allowed me to do speeds of up to 23km on this trail - all peddle assisted of course. I had to watch when the shingle on the trail was too soft and thick or my rear wheel would skid and I would almost fall off! Going through a river posed a new problem and one shoe got wet but found if I accelerated I could go forward in the water!
looks like a lovely place to cycle Maggie

A lovely scenic view but the road is rather rough for Ruby isn't it ? must be a bumpy ride !!!!

This is to one side of the trail which was rough gravel, Beryl. Further to the right was the trail which was packed and fine shingle!

Looks like a nice place to bike

Sounds like you had a fun adventure!
January 9th, 2016
You are one cool lady...an electric Indian bike. How fun!
January 9th, 2016
I'd like to do that ride. Would be even better with a little electric help I'm sure!
January 9th, 2016
Way to go!

Looks like a lovely place for a bike ride.

Great bike, great image!
January 10th, 2016
I love that you put Ruby in the photo! I'm so impressed with your athletic prowess!

@grammyn I was all alone on this trail, Katy and wondered what I would do if a monster jumped out of a bush at me! Then I decided I would just use the throttle and I would zoom out of sight in an instant!
January 10th, 2016
@maggiemae that must've been scary but I am so proud of you for doing it
January 10th, 2016
That looks like the kind of bike I need - a little extra boost when you need it! Nice shot, looks like a beautiful day!
January 10th, 2016
@grammyn I was only imagining the fright, Katy - I'm inclined to let my imagination wander!
January 10th, 2016
@maggiemae I meant scary to be on the trail all alone! I knew a monster didn't really come out at you! ;~}
January 10th, 2016
Does this mean that it's motorized by your pedaling, or that you can pedal that fast? Looks like a really interesting ride.
January 10th, 2016
@taffy Yes, Taffy - you peddle and that starts the electric motor which you can choose how fast you want to go! People look so surprised when I stream past them at a fair pace!
January 10th, 2016
That's really a tiny motorized bike. My friends have some but they are much bigger and probably heavier. I like yours.
January 10th, 2016
@maggiemae Seems like it would be a great city bike! Since I rarely drive.
January 10th, 2016
@redy4et @taffy Whats special about this bike is that it folds up and can be put into the car boot! It weighs about 25kg and there are strong levers everywhere that you can work to fold it up!
January 10th, 2016
@maggiemae Oh, I do want one!
January 10th, 2016
Love that you bike is in the composition...looks like a fun bike. Hope you wear a helmet!
January 10th, 2016
Good on you!
January 10th, 2016
lovely blues and greens. I can tell that you love this bike.
January 10th, 2016
Great capture...super background...neat looking bike
January 10th, 2016
This is your trusty stead! I can't see the engine & it looks just like an ordinary bike, I expected it to be bulkier than that. Would love to have seen you mid river....how brave you are! Just read that it's folding too.....a gem!
January 10th, 2016
@happypat The battery is on the back carrier and it runs the motor on the back wheel, Pat. Magic machine!
January 10th, 2016
Lovely place and capture.
January 10th, 2016
i imagine the perfect blue sky that is reflected on the water. wish i could ride a bike or i'd have bought one like ruby. then i'd probably do a leana niemand, cycling all over the world.
January 10th, 2016
I love a great bike shot! I imagine the Indian takes you all over the place!
January 11th, 2016
Good that Ruby helped you out of the water. Nice comp here.
January 11th, 2016
@kwiksilver But she didn't Gillian - she dug her back wheel into the gravel underwater and refused to go any further! I had to have severe words with her!
January 11th, 2016
Oh dear, poor Ruby! I guess she had no choice after that to do the necessary!
January 11th, 2016
She's beautiful! And an Indian no less. My respect for has increased exponentially!
January 11th, 2016
@stray_shooter Are you and Indian fan, Ron? Have you heard of my father in law, Burt Munro who loved Indians too?
January 11th, 2016
Love the scene. Must get me one of these to. Here they are called "help my trap." or help me peddle....
January 11th, 2016
That's pretty basic, Sylvia - translation! But true!
January 11th, 2016
Wonderful! Be safe!
January 11th, 2016
@maggiemae Oh that's you?!? I heard that his daughter-in-law was on 365, but was not aware it was you!!!! Hell yes, I've heard of him - and that was before the movie! One of the finest films ever, by the way - I just love that story. I have thee Harleys, but never was able to obtain an Indian. The new ones I don't really consider to be true Indians, but I ride with a few friends that have genuine old models, including a Scout and a real Chief. And I had a friend that was at Bonneville when Burt was there - different class, but the place was abuzz about Burt and what he was doing. Wow, what a small world!!
January 11th, 2016
@stray_shooter Its amazing how many people round the world know of him, Ron! He was an obstreperous old guy but very likeable.
January 11th, 2016
I lijke it and its a Great Brand!! I have an Indian group I follow on Face book!!
January 12th, 2016
Wow, Just realized too about Burt... so cool!!
January 12th, 2016
Beautiful view and capture. Ruby looks like a mighty fine bike. Didn't know you could ride an electric bike through water though. Couldn't that cause a short?
January 12th, 2016
I want that bike!! It sounds wonderful!! You are so brave in your adventures!! I was wondering why I haven't seen your pictures lately and just realised I have unfollowed you somehow!! How does this happen? Anyway Fav for your great bike and lovely view and FOLLOWING of course!!

Lee
I saw this elderly chap on his electric bike go past another cyclist at quite a pace, I was quite amusing to see because he was peddling but was obviously putting no effort in. and wouldn't you know it, no camera.
January 12th, 2016
@gamelee Thats half the fun, Lee - and going uphill flat out!
January 12th, 2016
Beautiful view and capture
January 13th, 2016
What a great place for cycling. Lovely. I would want to stay and admire the view.
January 13th, 2016
Nice area and bike!
January 14th, 2016
Yeah go for it Maggie... you soon learnt the technique... ride like the clappers towards it then make sure the pedals are horizontal to give your feet the best chance of keeping dry
January 27th, 2016
@yrhenwr I should have done that, David! What I did was set the speed fast then climbed on and peddled! Of course the wheels dug into the gravel and I came to a wet end!
