I'm pleased to look at this photo as they were just superb and the sauce rich and creamy.
Unfortunately, as I said in my last photo, there were about 7 - 8 mussels that were not open and I just couldn't work them open with a knife or a fork. I did try and just ended up splashing the sauce all over my clothes. On telling the waitress she came back with the comment that the whole dish will be taken off the bill!
Oh, my favorite. I can't pass them up when I see them on a menu. I'd always heard that if a mussel doesn't open at least a little, don't eat it. If it's completely closed, it isn't cooked or something is wrong with it. Not sure if that's true, but I figure better safe than sorry.
The detail here is so amazingly tempting, the sauce, the colours & the little flecks if green. The only thing is I have only ever had a quick taste of a mussel so not sure if I like them! I would think too that it wasn't cooked enough if it didn't open....just guessing!
I love mussels and these look so good. You should discard any that stay open before you cook them, and also any that stay shut when they have been cooked.
That was nice of the restaurant to do that- but then that's good customer service. I like some seafood, but not usually things in the shell. Glad you enjoyed yours though!
