This is in response to (@toddchat) Chris' pic of his pocket knife. I said I'd get a pic of mine and this is it. I love the way Chris uses his pics to tell his stories which are usually very humorous. Last night's post made me just about split a gut with laughter! My story won't be as entertaining or funny, however, I'll give it a go!
My buck normally resides on my key chain where it's always handy, since I usually keep my keys with me wherever I go. It does get cleaned ever so often, but quickly ends up looking like it does now with good use! I haven't had to sharpen it yet and it's getting up there in age... but so am I! LOL! It serves me well by cutting open hay bales and feed bags, cutting up apples and carrots for horses, cutting open boxes and envelopes, cutting twine and string and has even served as a screw driver when none was available!
I feel the need to state that this IS NOT A WEAPON and only a handy tool for me! It's so small, it would be a SORRY WEAPON and only MAKE SOMEBODY MAD if I tried to use it on them! I can do MORE HARM with an ELBOW blow to the gut, a KNEE to the groin, and my BOOT HEEL to the leg or foot! NUFF SAID! LOL!
Great shot, and I love the insets. Being a city girl now, I don't keep one on me, but when I'm sailing, my knife is always clipped on, and it was an essential part of my hockey bag too.
Neat shot and idea. I too carry a pocket knife, as did my dad and grandfather. I now have both of theirs put away someplace. My latest one is one I got as one of those black Friday deals for $1.99 and it is stainless steel. The only problem now days is remembering to leave it at home when I fly to the races.
Maggie, when I forst saw this image on the 'home page recent activity' I was a tad worried...then I read your narrative and realised what a really useful tool it is for you......I love the thought of you 'cutting up apples and carrots for horses'...I bet that's very rewarding ... feeding such beautiful animals :)
The image is pin sharpe :)....knife sharpe one could say...and it's got great detail ....I can see the skyline reflected in the blade :).
Your ruler gives the image scale....it's only 3 inches ...so it's only little....but hey us men tend to exaggerate a bit when it comes to measuring inches.
Have a super weekend :) , I'll think of you feeding your horses with carrots and apples :)
@phil_howcroft LOL! Phil, you are so funny! This would be a sorry weapon and I have never used it as such. I can do more harm with my elbow, knee and boot heel than I could with this little bitty pocket knife! Good eye seeing the sky in the blade! I didn't notice that until you said so! ROFLOL! Measuring inches... TOO funny! Thank you so very much for you very thoughtful and kind comments! Much appreciated!
@windridge My kind of gal! I carry a church key in my truck to open bottles... :: sigh :: Not many things come in bottles to open that way anymore. Sad! Thank you for your comments, Susan! Nice to know another prepared gal!
@marlboromaam ha ha Maggie, I made you chuckle a couple of nights ago and now I have you ROFLOL'ing ...I like the banter we have (do you understand the term 'banter' in the US...it's friendly , good natured chat ).......I know you would never hurt a soul :)....but I must stay clear of your boot heels :) , BTW: i might post an abstract shot later :) I'll see what it looks like once I upload it :)
@phil_howcroft I do understand "banter!" It's all good! LOL! Under slung heels on cowboy boots can put a hurtin' on someone if they're stomped with them. Ha ha! Do post the abstract! I'll be anxious to see it!
What a nice little tool to have there, Maggie. Never heard of that brand . . must look around. My husband would like this. Your composition is SO interesting! Love the rough texture of the wood and the shiny metals. Didn't know that you had horses now . . have you ever posted any photos of them? Love how your spirit comes through on this photo and comment.
@karenann LOL! Never heard of a "Buck Knife"... I can't imagine that. I thought everyone had. =) I found mine at a local hardware store and made in the USA, but that was several years ago when Walmart sold only "made in the USA"... I had a horse. I had to let her go a few months ago. Since my layoff, I couldn't afford to feed her any longer. My Bits is, I believe the very first picture I posted on 365. It's back in August. LOL! Really? My spirit comes through? Hmmm? Imagine that. =) Thank you for your lovely comments. Most appreciated!
You have a knife on your key ring!?! Excellent! Seems like a very handy tool to have! I, should not carry a knife on my key ring....handy-knives and PMS do not mix!! :P Great informative shot Maggie! Hope you have a terrific weekend :)
@heidievans73 LOL! You do know what PMS really stands for, don't you? "Possible Murder Suspect!" ROFLOL! Thank you for your comments, Heidi! Much appreciated!
@heidievans73 But, Heidi, this is a little bitty thing. Like I told Phil above... never used it for a weapon cause it's pretty worthless for that purpose! However, I can do a whole lot more damage with my elbow, knee and boot heel! LOL!
@heidievans73 Glad to hear it never gets quite that bad! LOL! Hang in there, darlin'! This too shall pass! I'm just finishing up men-o-pause... Ugh! 100 times worse than any PMS! LOL!
@deliriousoul LOL! Why do so few see a little bitty pocket knife as a weapon and not a tool? Thank you for the comments, Justin! But, seriously, write what you want to - it's all good!
Geez! I'm glad there was room left to make a comment!
I LOVE Buck knives! Looks like this one has seen some use, but still solid as ever!
Nice pic, too!
Well, I am not surprised to see you post a photo like this as you are a country girl. Nice photo and I want to keep you on my side as that knife looks a little intimidating.
@darsphotos LOL! It's just a little bitty knife I use as a tool. It would make a sorry weapon! My elbow, knee and boot heel could hurt someone far, far worse! Thank you for your comments!
lol .. i just know that you are a true country girl now i have seen your blade ((o; ..... nice shot too ...
note
( if we 'English' walked down the street with that little baby attached to our keys .. & where stopped by a policeman .. it would be a ticket for a prison cell ... blades are banned over here .. too many idiots on the city streets marlboromaam )
@steveh This would be sad and sorry weapon. I can do more harm to someone with my elbow, knee and boot heel than I could with this little bitty knife that is a "tool" for me and I would never use it as a weapon since it is pretty useless for that. Our laws have gotten absolutely ridiculous to punish the many for the crimes of the few!!! Seems our so-called law makers have taken the easy way out by punishing everyone instead of the criminals! It's just a sad situation for the world and freedom.
Wow, somehow I missed this one. And after reading your commentary - all I have to say is - you think you know someone and find out you don't know the 1/2 of it. LOL.
Note to self, don't mess with Marlboromaam!
If she doesn't get you, her side kick Cloe will.
@myhrhelper Thank you, Kathy! I guess it comes from having to be my own hero most of my life. Thank you for your thoughtful comments and support! I appreciate it very much!
