The bees love it and even the hummers love it! The deer won't touch it, the rabbits nor the squirrels will touch it. I think I'll plant more next year - especially in my mother's concrete pots where the purslane keeps getting eaten by some critter. Lantana - I never knew and it comes in so many colors. Phone shot.
Lantana is beautiful but it is a nuisance in Australia because it smothers other vegetation, and it releases a chemical into the soil to prevent other plants from growing.
@onewing I keep mine in pots, Babs. The three little plants I have planted in the front yard keep getting smothered by other weeds and grasses. But, it's native to Central and South America. So it would make sense that it could invade other spaces and plants where you are.
@dkellogg Thank you very much, David. I'm curious... Do you have your plants in pots or in the ground? I have three little golden lantana in the ground in the front where they get full sun and the critters have never bothered them, but if I don't weed around them - they get choked out. The others in the pots are doing fine as long as they get water every day. It's been so hot and steamy here - it's like all the potted plants have been steamed in a wok!
We have yellow lantana and Indian blanket flower in the same planter but the bees and butterflies much prefer the Carolina Phlox… not sure why but it is the go to flower in our pollinator garden. Nice focus on the skipper.
@kvphoto Thank you, KV. I don't have any Phlox. I'll have to get back out to the farmer's market and see what they've got. Lowe's has been pretty pitiful with plants the pollinators and the hummers would love. I did get a new butterfly bush that's not doing too well right now in this heat.
Beautiful shot. Lantanas come in many colours and beautiful ones too. They do not need any care and are popular with insects. I have two of them in pots, one with yellow flowers and the other with pink ones.
