Camou Beetle by milaniet

Camou Beetle

This ribbed pine borer beetle was no where near any pine trees - walking along the walking trail - nearly stepped on him. Those markings sure make him look scary - guess they're not eyes, but sure do look like them!
The "eyes" are their self defense from birds. Make them look larger than they really are. Well camouflaged.

I guess they're to frighten predators away?
He blends in to his current background well, no wonder you almost stepped on him - so well spotted (he is too ;-) ) and caught!
