People used to bring bread to feed the geese - that is now strongly discouraged as they are definitely too tame, not the least intimidated by people, and way too prolific! We were that close.
People ruin wildlife. :( They are meant to be wild!! All those hand outs takes their fear away and brings them too close . Now I can climb off my soap box to say...lovely lovely closeup!
I am surprised that it didn't hiss, but maybe now that breeding season is over they are more cooperative. I agree with you about the feeding. In our area the seagulls come right up to your blanket looking for the crusts of your sandwiches or whatever else they can scrounge!
