This viceroy stayed put for quite some time - saw him yesterday down at the creek on the same leaf of this one bush. Like how this time of year they're not so beaten up and ragged looking.
A gorgeous capture. We have had a butterfly flitting around here for a couple of days, the first I have seen in a long while. I think of you when I see it coming in. I go to grab my camera and by then it is out of range.
@sansjuan One thing I've noticed is if they leave when I first approach, I stand still right there and frequently they'll make a wide circle and then return. This time I'm ready.
@kathiecb That's a thought. Wish I could get down to the edge of the water to check - if I could keep my mind off the snakes I've seen in the brush on the bank I'd peek! I'm shooting from about 10 feet away on top of the creek bank.
