Nice on black. This Viceroy (or his kinfolk) have been down by the little creek nearly every afternoon for the last week. It's a good thing too - not much else has been around! Liked this shot with the sun going through the wings. Glad no one was shooting me taking this shot. (Not in an easy spot which spells not very graceful!)
Why would they be shooting at you it's hunting season? Or were you on private property? This is a fantastic capture I love the light in your background and the light coming through the butterflies wings. Your butterfly is nicely focused and I love how you got just that one leaf of grass in focus with him. Fav!
The colors are brilliant, the yellow part seems to be transparent....That he settled in the middle of the leaf gives the picture an extra point of interest! Fav
This is absolutely gorgeous. I am now calling you the butterfly whisperer. How are the hummingbirds, still around. Lovely shot, very well done. You must be one patient lady!!
@terryliv The Viceroy has the horizontal curved line across the hindwings - the Monarch doesn't. Took me forever to remember which was which. Finally got it down.
@kt8ird The hummingbirds that have been regulars seemed to have left Sunday. We're still getting a passing through one occasionally and I saw one down at the creek this afternoon in the Cardinal flowers. Fortunately, the butterflies haven't gone yet.
