Stepping Back in History

There is a very small, almost hidden in the woods, cemetery near the walking trail I use. Noticed today 3 of the tombstones were war related - on the left is one from the War of 1812 with the 1st Tennessee Militia, the other two are Civil War Veterans - top right says he was killed in 1862 crossing the Tennessee River as a member of the 29th Tennessee Infantry Confederate States of America, and the lower right was a Private from Company E 12th Georgia Cavalry of the Confederate States of America. Do wonder how they wound up buried here in Ozark, Arkansas.
This is a really cool piece of history you found. Fantastic collage

The bottom right one is very interesting. Looks like it dates from when he died in 1908 (others look more recent) and even 43 years after the end of the Civil War it lists his service to the Confederate States of America.

That is heavy...The stones look like marble that's why they are so well preserved. A piece of history for certain.

@annepann Around here, the saying is the older generation usually went to their grave still fighting the Yankees - that may have been the case with these two CSA soldiers.

Great use of BW. Interesting history photos. We can learn so much by looking at the stones in the cemeteries.

I used to love walking through old graveyards and reading the stones. Some of them are quite funny others were very sad. But all have a personality of their own.

Wow. 1812. He had a long life considering the time frame. So great to find these stones.
