Finally found a feeder the squirrel can't get into - and a lot were sure tested! It's a timed release one - fully sealed - drops the seeds several times a day onto a little plate. He couldn't figure out how to get down there. He sure gave it a try though.
The platform feeder is fair game - he figured out if it got up on one of the flower pots, he could leap up to the feeder - moved the pot further away and he just made a longer jump. Really fun to watch.
Awesome capture. They are fun to watch. I had one of the critters getting on my feeder and was moving it further from the tree. They just kept jumping, so finally had enough and moved it way out of the way. Watched the first squirrel attempt the jump from the orange tree, and it became a flying squirrel, but didn't have enough wings to make the feeder and plopped on the ground. Didn't see that again. They learn fast.
@rickster549 Giggled all the way through the story, Rick. Reminded me of when my husband had greased the pole the feeder is attached to - he kept trying to climb up but would slide back down. Would back up a little further to get a running jump, just kept backing up further until he made it. Had us in tears laughing.
I just bought a “squirrel proof” feeder, his weight on it makes the cylinder close off all the feeding stations. Just hysterical to watch them desperately trying to get just one seed. Lol. Your capture is so fun!
