Found a small patch of milkweed out at the Forest Service office - use to be loads of it there - now just 3 little patches left. But with careful hunting found two monarch caterpillars. They're good not to run away!
Can you plant more native Milkweed? I understand there are schemes for restoring the plant and help the insect. I had the great thrill of visiting 2 reserves 4 years ago during trip to California, something never to be forgotten
I tried to get Milkweed to take in the dirt between my house and the neighbor's. It grows right down the street but it wouldn't take here. I really was hoping to attract Swallowtails there. But my soil is the worst in PA! Great shot.
Fabulous image of this caterpillar. I have two kinds of milkweed in my yard, but we still see very few Monarchs compared to years ago when our yard was a butterfly highway.
