Abrasive- it's one of those words that sounds like its definition to me. Just the thought of scraping and scrubbing has that rough edge feeling to it. But sometimes when the food cooks too long and it gets stuck to the bottom of the pan, there's no better solution than an abrasive wad of steel wool with soap in it!
My apologies to you all. I realized when I uploaded this shot that I misspelled this word on the challenge list!
ooooh! this is nasty. i haven't used this since i was in university. my mother used to make us scrub the floor with this and i get splinters all the time. so when i had the run of the house, these babies were promptly tossed and hard-bristled brushes were used instead.
okay, i do distinctly remember posting this comment. nobody removes this or i will cry!:-)
Great shot..now before I take this measure I put a bit of dishwashing soap with a bit of water in the pot and kinda getit to a boil to loosen up the burnt stuff. easy then to clean.
@karenann Thanks Karenann! I used to do that as well, but over the years those old hand-me down pots have been replaced by the newer coated pots and you can't use the Brillo or SOS pads on them. Now I use them more for cleaning the stove than anything else. @summerfield lol Vikki- wow, cleaning the floor?! No wonder you hated them! Thankfully I do not have to clean the floor with them and because most of my pots are now teflon coated, I only use them for cleaning the stove- and that I don't have to do too often! @boogie Oh yes Megs, the good ol' Brillo pad! These were SOS- same thing but the soap is blue. @bruni Thanks Bruni! That is a very handy tip! I hope I remember it! Most of my pots are coated now, but every now and then I need to use the old ones that are not, so that could be useful! @filsie65 Thanks Phil- wow, bugs? You must have some strange bugs where you live! lol
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! The morning sun at this time of year is really pretty. It comes in through the window over my kitchen sink and puts lovely shadows across my countertop. I knew it would be a great place for a b/w with natural lighting. So while my husband was still asleep I was in the kitchen taking pictures for the day. lol @httpgeffed Thanks Colleen!
Once my toilet had a blue mineral streak in it and I decided to scour it with one of these. The entire bowl turned grey and had to be scoured with a rubber brush and soap but the blue remains
I still think they are the Best scrubbers around!! Although i do not use them ofton They still can do the trick when all eles fails! Great Capture Brings back Memories of my childhhood...Mom used these all the time!!
@kimmistephens Thank you Kimmi! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! @pandorasecho Thank you Dixie! Sounds like the blue dye got under the glaze and into your porcelain. @cortens Thank you Julie! @bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! @ellimae Thank you Ellen! They remind me of bygone days too- even though I've had them all along. @tklein Thanks Tina! If you want a good solution for burned on food in a teflon pot see Bruni's tip above.
Looks like a bird nest and a walnut with some lose hairs to me! Or one of your almonds you posted the other day...just in gray scale. haha Good job on abrasive. The detail in this is great. I love that one spiraling curly fiber coming out the back of the "walnut."
@sangwann Thanks Dione! The steel wool really looked best in b/w. @allie912 Thanks Allison! Yes, they flaked off when I was taking some out of the box. I liked what it brought to the picture, so I kept it. @peterdegraaff Thanks Peter! Yes, it really does! @espyetta lol MaryBeth! I don't think your dentist would be too pleased if you ate one of these walnuts!! I like the curly one too!
