Another shot from my ramblings around Eschback farm on Thursday. I'm not sure what the flowers are- maybe Self-heal? I don't see anything in my identifying book that matches my picture but I think I remember that's what we called them long ago!
I had a couple good suggestions as to what the name might be, but I finally found it in my wildflower book under the name "Heal-all". The name "Self-heal" appeared in parenthesis next to it. I was glad to see my memory had not failed me (at least this time!) and it was fun to learn that this plant is a member of the mint family. Now I'm wondering if you can make a tea out of it. Another interesting bit of trivia- the plant got its name from it use to cure throat ailments.
i think they are something called Viper's Buegloss. We have them here on the sides of the road and it was something that my father always pointed out when we were driving near them!
@homeschoolmom Thank you Lisa! Yours won't be far behind ours. @eudora Thank you Diane! It is quite beautiful and a great place for photos. @summerfield Thank you Vikki! And thank you so much for the fav! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! @fullcircle Thank you Cindy! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! What did you call them? @taffy Thank you Taffy! Looks are deceiving though- it's just the placement of the camera. It's an incline, but it's not too steep. @maggiemae Thanks Maggie! I'll have to check out some pictures of that on the internet and see if they match. @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! This is true- but I'm always curious about the names! @salza Thank you Sally! @jackie8 Thank you Jackie! @sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry! @ubobohobo Thank you Margaret! It's lovely and I make up all kinds of stories in my head as to what it was like when it was operational. @sangwann Thank you Dione! @lilminimonka Thanks Brianna! @cimes1 Thank you Carole! And thanks so much for the fav! @nancih Thank you Nanci! I checked that out in my wildflower book but I don't think it's Loosestrife. They described the color as more magenta and this is definitely in the blue family. The picture also showed the plant as much taller than this. These are about as high as this plant will go- although they look a little taller than they are thanks to the pov.
For those who want to know...
It is officially "Self-heal" a. k. a. "Heal-all". It is a member of the mint family and received its common name from its wide use as a remedy for throat ailments.
