I had a private lesson at the camera shop today. I'm excited to test out some of the things I learned tomorrow on the T3i! But for today, I did learn that if you lower the AWB while the camera is set to 200 and shoot the moon, it will bring out the contrast of the craters and keep the sky black. So of course, with the moon being so wonderfully bright now, it was fun to put all that new info to use!
By the way- this is not black and white!! It just looks that way.
It's very cool. I just went out the door to check for the moon. By the time I went back into the house, played with the camera settings, and went back out, it was behind the clouds. I'm so bummed. Oh well, another night. Thanks for the info.
Wow, that is quite a moon! Looking at it like this almost gives you a feeling that there is only very few places in the universe that are still unknown to people (despite of knowing that it is not true). So detailed and close. Amazing.
Many of you have said, "Wow!" and I'm saying it too! I can't believe all the comments and favs! Thank you sooooo much!!
So here are the particulars for those who are interested: set you ISO to 200 on the AV mode. Set the Exposure Compensation (which I incorrectly called the AWB above!) one or two stops below 0 depending on how much contrast you want to bring out. You will definitely need a tripod or something to hold your camera steady. Set the AWB (automatic white balance) to Daylight- yes daylight as the moon is reflecting the sun! Happy moon shooting!
I've spent the evening shoveling- very stiff and tired right now, so I'll back to visit you all tomorrow.
I'll give the minus WB tweak a go. Thanks for sharing that tip.
Thanks for the tip, I'II have to try that.
