My sister asked me to pull down the family Bible to look and see if a death certificate and a marriage license were inside of it. Neither document was there other than what someone had written in the Bible itself. But there were several pictures of people I know are in my family tree but I'm not sure of who they are. My cousin, who has been documenting our family history for several years now, might, so I played around with this one a bit just for fun. And, if you're ever wondering what the "H" stands for, now you know!
My father told me that if I followed the tree back far enough, I was supposedly related to Alexander Hamilton. Who knows? Love the old traditional photo.
Just a wonderful antique photo. If she could see our capris and cool summer tops she would be so jealous. Victorian clothes always look to be made of wool.
@maggiemae The branch splits in many directions- and also appearance changes with marriages and new genes introduced so it's not surprising there are only small similarities. I think we both have a John Hamilton in common somewhere and that's what had us thinking we might be very distantly related. But then, Hamilton is a fairly common name.
@milaniet My grandmother told me that the Alexander Hamilton branch was English and we are of Scottish descent. But honestly, I think the English branch was a portion of the clan that migrated. Who knows? My cousin might have more info on that.
@summerfield@yoland@louannwarren It's pretty amazing, isn't it? I think this is Taffeta or Crenolin- it's not wool- but even with the more satiny material, I'm sure it weighed a lot and was quite warm in the summer months!
@randystreat Sounds about right to me- the dates in the Bible for marriages, births and deaths would coincide with that.
@onewing - one of my writer-friends is doing the same for many years now; and what do you know last year through one of those genealogy websites, she found a half-sister in Sweden. they have the same father, not the father she has known who died when she was a little girl, nor the step-father who raised her. it was a Polish man who lived around Ontario, Canada then settled in Sweden. Her half-sister was also raised by her not-biological father, which meant their mothers fooled around (the both have older brothers). it was quite the story. now she and her Swedish half sister are ready to meet just as soon as the pandemic is over.
(I`ve done , with the help of my brother, our family trees. Came to some never told stories)
Thank you all!
