Saw by olivetreeann

Saw

Poor Milo! Stuck in the Doldrums! He hears voices and knows something or someone is there but he can't even see them! He looks all around, but at first they are hidden from his sight. Finally he realizes they are slumping over his shoulder! It's the Lethargians, a pack of slothful characters who convince Milo that no one is allowed to think in the Doldrums. This could cause some problems for our tentative traveler!

Today's word comes from the sentence: "Yes...the...Dol...drums," yawned another voice, but still he saw no one. I know it would have been easy to raid Jeff's tools and pull out the traditional item that everyone thinks of when they hear the word, "saw". But that's not for me! So, I thought, what things do we use to help us see better? After all, Milo was having a vision related problem in the context of today's word. The answers led me to the binoculars we use for bird watching out our back door. After several boring shots (which are not relegated to the recesses of my camera's "deleted" file), I realized the lenses were catching my reflection and thus a more entertaining picture was captured. Too bad Milo didn't have something like these in the Doldrums. Perhaps he would have seen the Lethargians more clearly to begin with and gotten out of the Doldrums sooner!
Really creative Ann, and a very clever idea.

@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! This was the first one where I was scratching my head for a while thinking about what to shoot. I almost used one of my wildcards, but then came up with this idea.

I was thinking about my book/word challenge today too. I can be so LITERAL sometimes....so I am trying to change that. When I get my word, I try to think a little more creatively, but doesn't always come so naturally....depends on the day. Great processing and idea for the word!

@sarasdadandmom Bushnell Sportview wide angle 10x50- we've had them for about 28 years! I guess that's old to some.
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen!
@espyetta Thank you MaryBeth. Sometimes being creative is hard work! You do have to think things through and try out different things in your mind- why not, what if, how about, all those interesting twists and turns that something can take if you look at it from a different angle, and so on. But one thing is true- the more you get yourself to think that way, especially when shooting a picture, the more naturally it will come. You are on your way!

@digitalrn Thanks Rick. I must say it's all in the book you choose. The Phantom Tollbooth is just a fun book to begin with! By the way- thoroughly enjoyed your interview!

Great reflections! I often use different meanings for my words than the one meant in the book at that point - mostly out of necessity in my case though :)

@alia_801 Thanks Alia! Part of this is just the way my mind works- that somehow it all has to tie in to the book. But in other ways, I also feel like it keeps my mind sharp. I want to be one of those people that others say, "She's 90 and her mind is as sharp as a tack!" The only way I know how to accomplish that is to continue to learn new things, do puzzles and stimulate the creativity cells. 365 certainly helps with the first and third things on that list!

bushnell is it? for binoculars i think that's the only way to go. very nice selfie, ann. and the processing is bang on.

alia's challenge is a little bit difficult. in previous challenges, it was easy to 'plan' the shots, the subject, the set up. this one, you have to choose a word. you can choose an easy word and take it literally, or you can take it to the next level. it does crank the cogs in the brain and your creativity comes to fore. i'm stressed but i'm enjoying it!

@summerfield Thank you Summerfield. I know exactly what you're saying. I did have to adjust the word choosing process with my book just a bit. Being that it's a children's book there are a lot of ands, ors, buts, and so on. So, I followed the consecutive page format, and did the random point your finger on a word selection for each page. That helped at least make a list for the month. But I'm still being stretched on some of them! I think your shots have been really good- I especially liked "pretty"! I was recently talking with a friend about keeping the mind fresh as we aged. She does Sudoko puzzles (which I have absolutely no patience for!). I told her I did 365!
