A Banana On the Forest Floor by olivetreeann

A Banana On the Forest Floor

This is NOT the sequel series to my "Fruit in the Sink" series I've begun recently! I bought some bananas a while back but after a week they still hadn't ripened and were quite hard. Believing that the deer will eat anything (and that anything they don't or won't eat something else will) I took the bunch out to the edge of my yard and tossed them individually into the woods. The next day I saw a deer and a fawn checking out one of the bananas but got busy with other things and didn't remember to check in on the woodsy banana situation until four days later. I was shocked to find them all in tact and scattered on the leaves just as I'd thrown them earlier. However, they had turned yellow! Maybe they will eventually be ripe enough to eat! Who knows...

No need to comment on this one, as it is yet another filler to complete the Themes and Competitions album for July.
This is so funny.I purposefully brought a banana with me to the Redwoods on a trip to California because my students wanted me to compare it to a Banana Slug. I thought you were doing the same thing! Lol.Maybe if you peel them the deer will eat them.;)

I do prefer my bananas ripe as well. Apparently the deer feel the same way

I love bananas. I need to get a bunch. They are a healthy snack. It's funny that no wild animals snacked on the ones you tossed. Great contrast with the yellow on top of the leaves.

Haha, I thought you had specially placed it there for a photo!

Interesting shot and story. Not even the deer will eat the banana!

Now that is one interesting capture... a juxtaposition I would never have thought of--old decaying leaves and a nearly ripe piece of fruit. The mind reels : ) Love this!

Thanks to all! I'm glad to report that two days after I took this shot, all the bananas and their peels had been eaten! It took two weeks, but they were finally edible!
