Joyce's Orchid by onewing

Joyce's Orchid

Over the next few days, I am going to post photos taken while out with our walking group last Thursday.

Joyce a friend of mine spotted this wild orchid while we were walking and asked if I knew what variety it was. As many of you know I am hopeless at recognizing flowers so I said I would call it 'Joyce's orchid'. If anyone can recognize the variety, I will change the title.
Beautiful

I guess this is the flower you are asking about. You posted the ? On the RIPQueen photo.Yes looks like a wild orchid possibly Diuris arenaria or The Oaklands Diuris Orchid. It is very pretty.

Lovely shot.

I agree with Diuris - aka Donkey orchid. You can see the ears that give it its name.

@julzmaioro yes it is this one must have clicked on the wrong picture. Thanks for identifying it, I knew you would know because you are good on orchids.

@philm666 thanks Phil for confirming the identification

I thought that the shape looked similar to our donkey orchids but ours are in tones of orange and gold. https://365project.org/merrelyn/365/2020-08-29

@merrelyn Thanks for the link Merrelyn. Julia and Phil identified this flower as a Diuris Arenaria and when I looked it up I discovered that this particular variety only grows in our local Tomaree National Park and is an endangered species. We were lucky to spot it.

I didn't know what it was, but I know that around here it's hard to find them in the wild- although they do grow wild in some of our swamps. Nice shot!
