Great old and new! I have an electric typewriter at work still and a young ICT teacher last year asked me "what is that?" hahah she honestly didnt know.
@mandalee I'll believe that. I was in an antique shop last week and a kid of about 5 asked his Dad "what is this?" pointing to an old fashioned black telephone!
@brennan1983@winnedreamer I learned to type on an Imperial typewriter. Not quite as old as this one, but not much better. No wonder I've got arthritis in my fingers!
I too started my working life when the typing pool still used manual or electric typewriters. Problem with the modern solution is that anyone can use them, and they do, even when they have nothing to say. With the advent of the modern word processor at work the signal to noise ratio has got far worse more than wiping out any productivity gain.
When I went to school in the 1970s we did typing classes (that wasn't that long ago) and by the time I finished high school in the 1980s we saw the first computers (which were huge and not for general use). By my first job in public service in 1990 I was allow to use a shared computer (but the internet was still a dream). Now we have a house full of computers, smart phones, iPads etc.. and couldn't live without them . How times have changed just in the last 40 years. My sons have never known anything different.
Nice comparison photo by the way.
