Common Jezebel or Black Jezebel Butterfly

This is the first time I have ever managed to take a photo of a butterfly. Luckily this one sat very still for a while. Must have been cold.

Apparently according to my book on insects and spiders, this is the female of the species and are very common in the eastern states of Australia.

I love the contrast of colors

Aren't those glossy wings just gorgeous. I just love it when creatures do the right thing and sit still to have their photos taken.

Oh, how amazing! I do hope we see more butterflies than we saw last year.

You don't think of butterflies being fluffy do you?

@brennan1983 Thanks Brennan. Its wings were really beautiful.

@joluise Thanks Jo. It flew past me and landed on the leaves on the ground. Luckily it just sat there long enough for me to get a close up shot of it and then it flew off again. It is the first time I have managed to get a shot so close.

@wordpixman Luckily we get lots of butterflies here, but I've never been lucky enough to get a photo of one until now.l

@gamelee Thanks Lee.

Great shot Babs, I tried to take a photo of one of them at Gloucester a while back, but it was just blurred. Where was it?

@elaine55 Thanks Elaine. Never had a butterfly sit in one place long enough for me to take a photo before.

@gypsy6 No I didn't know they were fluffy either.
