Day is Dawning by onewing

Day is Dawning

Today, David and I along with some of our friends thought it would be a good idea to get up at some ungodly hour to set off on a 5.30 am start Nature Lovers Photography Cruise around Port Stephens.

It was a beautiful day (once we saw daylight) and as we sailed out through the bay we saw the Nelson Head Inner Lighthouse, the pink sky (I believe this is called the Girdle of Venus) at 5.50 am. (The top picture in this diptych)

At 6.01 am having just sailed out of the bay through The Heads and into the ocean proper we saw the sun rise. (The second picture in this diptych). Such a beautiful day dawned.

Our two and a half hour cruise on the ocean was a wonderful photography opportunity. Two of our male companions looked a bit green around the gills when the ocean became a bit choppy, but the girls in our group were made of sterner stuff and we enjoyed a hearty breakfast on board.

A very enjoyable way to start the day.

I commend you Babs, but I'd have been joining the green around the gills guys (if you'd got me on the boat at all that is! )

Great photos, that is such a great idea, (apart from the early start), looking forward to seeing more of the photos.

@happypat Thanks Pat. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place. The sunrise was beautiful. The house in the top picture isn't a house, it is the Inner Light Lighthouse in Nelson Bay and also the marine rescue unit which is run by volunteers.

@onewing That makes perfect sense....an excellent place for a lighthouse.

@yaorenliu @hermann @mercuria @wanabe Thank you all so much. It was a beautiful morning. Came home and had a Nanna nap! David recovered from his green tinge too. At least he knew he hadn't made the wrong decision years ago and he joined the RAF instead of the Navy ha ha!!

@jackie8 Thanks Jackie. David was a little bit green, but it was only a bit rough when we were out through the Heads and going round a couple of the islands. Once back in the bay and following the coastline it was very calm. They make us women much tougher than the men!!!

Oh I'd love to do that, I love getting up early when there are very few people around, so peaceful. Sounds like you had a great time and you have these beautiful pics to show for it too.

@angelat Only go out on the boats if there is something to go for, like this day. I am not a sailing round with no purpose person.
