Friday people day and today's people photo was taken at our recent photo club outing to a rodeo.
Here a three of the rodeo clowns waiting for the rider and bull to enter the arena.
The primary job of the rodeo clown is to protect a fallen rider from the bull by distracting the bull and providing an alternative target for the bull to attack, whether the rider has been bucked off or has jumped off of the animal. These individuals expose themselves to great danger in order to protect the cowboy. To this end, they wear bright, loose-fitting clothes that are designed to tear away, with protective gear fitted underneath. Rodeo clowns require speed, agility, and the ability to anticipate a bull's next move. Working closely with very large, very powerful animals, rodeo clowns are often injured seriously, and, sometimes, fatally.
Not a job for the faint hearted then.....must get well paid for such a dangerous job. The little guy in the skirt doesn't put me in mind of a fast runner!! So interesting to see!
These guys deserve a medal for the job they do. I took a photo last month for my animals photos of a bull and that was the one these guys were watching before it was out in the arena. They had a terrible job getting it out of the arena once it had thrown the rider and the dust was flying everywhere. One of them had quite a close shave with the bull, but luckily he survived.
