We have been in Newcastle all day today as I had a medical appointment there and tonight we are out at the golf club.
An underwater photographer friend of ours is giving a presentation at the golf club about his photography and the marine environment in our area.
Who remembers David Bowie in Labyrinth? This fantastic piece of street art is on Hunter Street in Newcastle and was part of the Hit the Bricks Festival. It was painted by street artist Dan Prestage.
Dan is a barber at Deadhead Barber Shop in Newcastle but secretly is a well accomplished fine artist with skills ranging from painting through to sculpture and fashion. He is also a deft
hand at cutting a mean haircut apparently.
Dan started his career as a hairdresser in Melbourne but rapidly decided the more relaxed lifestyle of a barber was more his speed. His barbershop looks a lot out of the ordinary, with zombie paraphernalia and rockabilly imagery spread around his shop.
I'm trying hard to understand why being a barber is more relaxed than being a hairdresser?! The only Labyrinth I know is a book of that name! Dan does a great style street art!
Wonderful capture Babs love Dan's handy work with a brush, I remember David Bowie as Jareth in the film circa 1986, I was a fan of Bowie, saw him live a couple of times many years ago now:)
@julzmaioro Thanks Julia. The presentation and short films were excellent last night too. Jim put together a great short film about marine sanctuaries in our area and there was another film about marine life around Australia.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter and lucky you I never saw David Bowie live. David had never seen the movie Labyrinth and I got it on DVD when the grandkids were here so he watched it for the first time.
@eyesmile Thanks Gena and yes the presentation was brilliant. It was two short films about our marine environment and the marine park where I live. Some fantastic photography too.
