Friday people photo day again and I saw this chap on the breakwater at the marina doing a spot of fishing. I just loved the corks on his hat. Hope you can see them.
Slouch hats with cork on them are a great Australian tradition to ward off flies, but this is only the second time I have ever seen anyone wearing one.
interesting candid capture with lovely lighting and detail Babs, I was told corks around the hat was a myth for tourist's and an Australian would not be seen dead wear such a hat, possibly hes an expat, lol)
Ed has just taken the corks off the hat you sent him years ago. He still has them but has decided to use the hat for his gardening hat instead of keeping it I the cupboard for ...how many years is it now? Bet you haven't got the ones we posted through your letter box!
@beryl Thanks Beryl, it is a lovely time of the day, just as the sun is setting. @thistle Thanks Joyce, the strange thing about the hat is that there aren't many flies around at this time of the year.
@sioux Thanks Sue, would love to see you in a cork hat.
@hermann Thanks Sally, yes a lovely time of day, just as the sun is setting.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter, but this chap is a local, he is often seen fishing on the breakwater. Maybe he doesn't know that the cork hats are a myth.
@salza Not sure if the corks work or not Sally. Maybe he started the day with beer bottles on the end of the hat too and he has slowly worked his way through them.
@kathiecb Thanks Kathie. He probably started off with wine bottles on the end of the corks and drank the lot in between his fishing. ha ha.
Can't see that there was much use for it other than that as there aren't many flies around here at the moment.
@eyesmile Thanks Gena. It is a lovely time of the day, just as the sun is setting. I think the cork hat is more of an outback Australia thing, not many flies at the moment where we live. We do get some eccentrics in our neighbourhood.
@thistle Thanks Joyce, the strange thing about the hat is that there aren't many flies around at this time of the year.
@sioux Thanks Sue, would love to see you in a cork hat.
@gilbertwood Thanks Denise. I have only ever seen two people wearing cork hats, other than for fun and here is the other one. http://365project.org/onewing/365/2013-03-31 This chap was in a café at Sydney Central Railway Station. Obviously on his way to the outback.
@hermann Thanks Sally, yes a lovely time of day, just as the sun is setting.

@pusspup I didn't think people wore the hats either, this is only the second time I have ever seen anyone wearing one other than for fun.
Thanks everyone. The weather has been so nice this autumn, but today has gone quite cool.

can't keep up lol
