Sod off it's mine.

As I was walking along the breakwater in Nelson Bay I spotted this gull dive bombing the pelican on the light. There were more than a few harsh words between the two of them, but the gull eventually gave up and the pelican kept his perch.
Ha ha! Can't imagine the pelican would let a seagull have it! The gull obviously doesn't know it is only little! ( a bit like little dogs and big dogs!)

He looks like his nesting spot is a little small anyway...
May 10th, 2015
Brilliant! My dad got pooped on by a seagull sitting on a lampost, a pelican would take that scenario to a new level!!
May 10th, 2015
He looks all scrunched up. There's no room for anyone to drop in!
May 10th, 2015
Great fun shot Babs. Seagulls round here will have go a most things until they learn their lesson.
May 10th, 2015
Very funny title, lovely pic
May 10th, 2015
I love your title! Great capture and such blue sky!
May 10th, 2015
Fantastic composition and clarity - nicely done.
May 10th, 2015
Great capture Babs, both birds stand out well against the blue, suspect they can't land or perch on the slippy lights solar panel:)
May 10th, 2015
Lovely tableau, beautiful blue skies!
May 10th, 2015
They are fun to watch :)
May 10th, 2015
How can this bird get this high, I wonder if the post is going to bend. Love the title.
May 10th, 2015
@beachdog I think your right Barb. The gulls have no idea of their size they are just so bossy. The pelicans sit on the lamp posts watching the people fishing on the breakwater and wait for their opportunity to get any left overs.
May 10th, 2015
@julzmaioro It is still a favourite spot for the pelicans even though it is small. They watch the people fishing.
May 10th, 2015
@pixiemac Ha ha. There were people standing under this light post too and didn't notice the pelican and gull until they spotted me taking a photo, so I think I probably saved them.
May 10th, 2015
@ceilidh I think you are right Margaret, but the gull is certainly trying.
May 10th, 2015
@thistle The gulls around here learn the hard way too I think as there are quite a few one legged gulls in our area.
May 10th, 2015
@365projectorgchristinewebb Thanks Christine hope it made you smile.
May 10th, 2015
@mrsrcg Thanks Rachel. After our recent storms it is lovely to see blue skies again. It gets a bit chilly at night now though, as we come to the end of autumn and almost in winter.
May 10th, 2015
@dide Thanks Dianne. They were having a few choice words I can tell you.
May 10th, 2015
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. No they can't land on the solar panels there are spikes on top to stop them.
May 10th, 2015
@pusspup Thanks Wylie, after our recent storms it is lovely to see blue skies again.
May 10th, 2015
@gilbertwood They were fun to watch. The pelican won and the gull gave up in the end, but not before a few choice words were exchanged.
May 10th, 2015
@yaorenliu It may be a pretty solid pelican but it is a pretty solid light too, so no chance of it bending.
May 10th, 2015
Well timed, they are both feisty birds. Great shot Babs :)
May 10th, 2015
Wonderful angled shot...Fav
May 10th, 2015
Great capture, and a fave for the crest title too :)
May 10th, 2015
What a great capture, perfect timing.
May 10th, 2015
Super shot Babs. :)
May 10th, 2015
that's such a funny shot Babs. He really looks angry. Such great timing
May 10th, 2015
Awesome capture. Fav!
May 10th, 2015
FAV.... wonderful shot and timing.
May 10th, 2015
Great action shot and very funny
May 10th, 2015
Great capture :)
May 10th, 2015
I love the way you've told a story through the image -- bird world wars!!
May 10th, 2015
I love this one, do you train pelicans to guard lights in your country lol, what a lovely shot, so clear fav
May 10th, 2015
Great capture and love the title.
May 10th, 2015
Tee hee! That Pelican isn't going to give up his nice perch for any interfering seagull,
May 10th, 2015
So funny Babs....I had a good laugh at your words......he is saying exactly that!
May 10th, 2015
fav...
May 10th, 2015
Amazing capture. Looks as if the pelican is about to open its beak and gobble up the gull!
May 10th, 2015
Good for Mr pelican. Those gulls are so horrid at times
May 10th, 2015
Great capture.
May 10th, 2015
@hermann @tonygig @karlow75 @salza @novab Thanks, the gull was very aggressive, but the pelican won.
May 11th, 2015
@cruiser Thanks Chris. I was walking along the breakwater when I heard the din. The gull was squawking and the pelican was honking but the gull gave up in the end.
May 11th, 2015
@mittens @pippie @dh @seattlite @taffy @richardcreese @moviegal1 @dolphin @mbmomentsintime @shepherdmanswife Thanks everyone for your lovely comments. The pelicans always claim the lights along the breakwater because they can keep their eye on the people fishing. The gulls don't usually stand a chance. This one was complaining but the pelican won.
May 11th, 2015
@princessliz The pelicans have figured out that this is a great vantage point along the breakwater because they can keep their eye on the people fishing and as soon as a fish is caught they get closer to pick up the left overs. No wonder our pelicans are so fat and tame.
May 11th, 2015
@creampuff Thanks Eve. The gulls do try to outdo the pelicans, but very rarely win. There are a few one legged gulls in our area so I guess some have come off worse than others.
May 11th, 2015
@happypat Thanks Pat. Glad it made you smile. They were making a hell of a racket. The pelican wasn't giving up his spot though. They always settle on the lights in the late afternoon. A great spot to watch the sun go down and also keep an eye on the people fishing too. They always manage to pick up bits of fish as the fishermen gut them.
May 11th, 2015
Wonderful shot. I can hear the chatter now. fav
May 11th, 2015
Haha, that gull didn't stand a chance!
May 11th, 2015
How funny! Great capture!
May 11th, 2015
Sue
I wonder what it is with pelicans and street lights? Great shot Babs.
May 11th, 2015
Oh very cool capture! Must be the gull's regular perch? Great action and timing on this shot!!
May 11th, 2015
@thimblelady @888rachel @fntngrma @sioux @eyesmile Thanks so much. I have just spotted that this is on the PP. That's two pictures in two days on the PP. I am on a roll. ha ha.
The pelicans always perch on the lights along the breakwater because they can keep their eyes on the people fishing and watch out for any throw away bits when the people gut their fish.
May 12th, 2015
Great caption.. Well spotted, birds are such great entertainment to watch.
May 12th, 2015
@jennywren Thanks Jen. There was definitely a turf war going on here.
May 12th, 2015
Amazing shot. Bet it gave you a stiff neck!
May 12th, 2015
Ha ha love the title, I'm sure that's exactly what he's saying!
