Today the weather has been perfect for a beautiful winters day. The temperature reached 26 degrees c (79f) and along with about 20 friends, David and I have been out for a Greek mezze lunch at Soldiers Point.
We have a regular annual event to celebrate the 'horses birthday'. Apparently the 1st August is the designated birthday for all horses and as two friends of ours also celebrate their birthday on the 1st August, we decided a few years ago to always have a bit of a party and a lunch to celebrate both the horse and human birthdays.
My birthday isn't until Tuesday, so I am the nag or the filly (not sure which) who comes in last, but I still get to celebrate along with the rest of them.
This sculpture is at the marina where our lunch was held and the sculpture is called Bubble and Squeak.
The description below the sculpture reads:
Bubble & Squeak - Artist Mike Van Dam
Constructed from 240 metres of 4 mm marine grade stainless steel chain with 12,000 links, this stunning two dolphin structure took approximately 250 hours to complete. Weighing 60 kg this sculpture was created in 2013. Mike creates large scale sculptures of sea creatures using marine grade stainless steel chain. the inspiration for the dolphins came from the artist watching his small children playing with a small toy dolphin and then experimenting with forming the chain into different shapes.
Stunning sculpture beautifully capture, wow now that bragging Babs forecast here today is 23 degrees C with 40% chance of rain, incidentally race horse birthday's are 1st January in the UK, strange you would think it would be the same date world wide with racing being international events :)
Wonderful vibrant sculpture that looks as if the Dolphins have just jumped out of the sea & has the sun shining on them. Your day just sounds the best...so hot & eating out with friends is always the best way to spend the day. Who would think it was winter!
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. Yes I heard yesterday that in the UK the horses birthday is in January. Don't know why it is different. Maybe they can have two birthdays a year.
@mbmomentsintime Thanks Maurice. The good thing about Australia is that even in winter, it isn't winter every day if you know what I mean. We have lots of sunny warm days in amongst the cold ones.
@happypat Thanks Pat. We don't get too many really cold days here even in winter, but I think they just feel cold to us because we aren't used to them. My blood has gone thin these days I think.
@chimfa@kwind@mittens@fntngrma@jennywren@pippie Thanks so much. I am doing well for my birthday this year. We were out on Saturday, out on Sunday, we are out on Tuesday and also on Thursday. Lovely to not have to cook dinner for so many days.
@pippie Sorry forgot to say, it says at the top here what they are made of. They are made of 240 metres of 4 mm marine grade stainless steel chain with 12,000 links.
How much fun you have!! Combining the horses birthday with your friends! And you my dear....will have celebrate without the horses. How sad is that. Wishing you at least a couple horse laughs on your birthday. I know you will have a fun time.
Great sculpture...love their names.
@eyesmile Thanks so much Gena and yes I did celebrate again without the horses. We were out on my actual birthday too which was yesterday and we had a lovely time.
