Tawny Frogmouth by onewing

Tawny Frogmouth

This isn't the best picture because behind this tawny frogmouth is her baby. Unfortunately, the light wasn't good to get the right angle to capture both of them.

As you can see these birds blend in so well with the branches of the tree and aren't easy to spot.

I have come to the conclusion that they aren't the brightest birds either because if you look closely she is sitting on her nest. She didn't think that one through as she is about four times too big for the nest and poor baby is sitting on the branch next to her and not even in the nest at all.

Thanks so much to everyone who commented and fav'd yesterday's photo of the Red Browed Firetail and for putting it on the TP and the PP.
He blends in so well, I had to look twice to see him. Great shot with the flowers in the background.

What a perfect place to sit, under the beautiful mauve canopy of the Jacaranda, how well she blends :)

Too fat for the nest! That was bad planning! Great shot. These birds are so well camouflaged that they are hard to spot.

@gigiflower I was disappointed too that I couldn't get them both, but the photo I got with the two of them was a silhouette because of the sunlight.

@happypat Thanks Pat. Yes she is nodding off, they are night birds and belong to the nightjar family, so during the day they just sleep mainly.

They are night birds related to the nightjar family, so spend most of the day just sleeping.
