The Sick Bus by onewing

The Sick Bus

Our next stop in New Zealand was Akoroa and one of the things we did there was to have a tour of the area on an old London double decker bus.

Unfortunately, the hills around Akoroa proved too much for the old bus and by the time we got up to Hilltop Tavern the the bus was exhausted and it overheated.

Luckily there were two busses and we had to wait for the next one to arrive. We travelled back to town on that bus and the next group of tourists had to wait until our sick bus had cooled down and recovered before they made their return journey.

Oh dear! Not the best way to have a tour...but good for photos!

The bus still looks so lovely and most colourful, poor old thing. It's engine will be getting old and tired. Bet it was a lovely tour though.

Wonderful collage with bold color on the bus. I was in an open top bus when I did a hop on and off there. Loved it.

Ha ha - so funny! It probably wasn't funny to those affected, but the story and photos are great.

Oh oh!!! Did you get to wait in the tavern? These experiences are part of the fun traveling...kinda sorta. Makes for good stories and photo ops.

@eyesmile ha ha, yes it's a hard life isn't it. We had to sit in the tavern and drink tea and coffee, cakes and other delicious things including the occasional glass of wine too. Such hardships. I was so glad the bus died because we would have been really rushed otherwise.

@cruiser I loved Akoroa too, no retail therapy here though. By the time we had got back into town and visited the Giant's House, the heavens opened with a terrific storm and we got the shuttle bus back to our ship. Will definitely go back there again one day though.

@saird Me too.

@pcoulson Ha ha, you are not wrong Peter.
February 6th, 2016
@chrysanthemum Yes Christina it was a great tour and good that the bus overheated because we got longer to stay in this area than was first anticipated because we had to wait for the next bus to arrive.

I remember riding on a double decker bus when we were overseas. Don't think we have them in the U.S.
February 6th, 2016
Double deck to Akaroa? That is a challenge. I hope you saw dolphins there.

@taffy @thistle @annied @maree_sanderson @hermann @shirleybankfarm @snowy @deborah63 @mittens @seattlite @ladymagpie @carolmw @kwind @dh @thimblelady @gilbertwood @shazzym @paulaw @pippie @beachdog @fntngrma Thanks, it worked out quite well because it didn't interrupt our tour very much. It just meant that we had more time to stay at the Hilltop Tavern and that was a positive. The next bus with another group of tourists arrived and we got on their bus to carry on our tour and then hopefully they were able to return on this bus once it had recovered.
I had forgotten just how steep the stairs to the top deck of the bus were. ha ha.
February 6th, 2016
@pippie That would have been a lovely way to travel.
February 6th, 2016
@merrelyn There are regular daily tours on the double deckers and I think they have been there for a while.
