Car Alarm - Baby Butcher Bird by onewing

Car Alarm - Baby Butcher Bird

We have nicknamed this baby butcher bird "car alarm" because of the noise it makes.

Mr and Mrs Butcher Bird have three babies, but this one makes the most noise and demands the most attention. You can imagine that by the flapping of his wings and his mouth wide open.

I think Mr Butcher Bird has had enough of kids now and when we feed them raw mince he just eats his, but poor Mrs Butcher Bird runs herself ragged trying to feed all three babies.
Such a cute bird, so sweet. Wonderful capture

@cruiser You are right there Chris. She was just about worn out feeding all of them. Mr Butcher Bird came back later for a bit of respite and sat singing to himself.

March 17th, 2016
Is that the real name for them?
March 17th, 2016
Like the title. I can imagine the sound now.
March 18th, 2016
Not heard of or seen one of these birds before Babs. Loved your recounting if the story!
March 18th, 2016
@saulgoode This is the only one that is so demanding. The other two are very quiet in comparison.
March 18th, 2016
@marshwader Yes Madeleine butcher bird is th e real name for these birds. They get their name from their habit of impaling captured prey on a thorn, tree fork, or crevice. This "larder" is used to support the food while it is being eaten, to store prey for later consumption, or to attract mates.

He may sound like a car alarm while he is demanding food from his Mum and Dad, but when he grows up this is what he sounds like.

@lynne5477 @taffy @mv_wolfie @mittens @seattlite @ladymagpie @craftymeg @ceilidh @snowy @loweygrace @inthecloud5 @brian365 @jackie8 Thanks, he is having a bit of a tantrum here and is so demanding. His brothers or sisters can't get a look in and poor Mum will be a stretcher case by the time this little chap grows up.
They do sound better when they are older though as this link will show.

March 18th, 2016
They can be very demanding! Nice capture.
March 18th, 2016
@kategoring @dide @golftragic @kwind @dianeburns Thank you all. The butcher birds don't only have to compete with each other they also have to compete with the kookaburra's too, so no wonder this little chap has learned to shout the loudest.
March 19th, 2016
Kn ow what this is like! We tried feeding maggies and BB's.They all got so demanding whenever we fed them that we had to stop. We were getting driven crazy by the noise and the pooping!!
