We have had a day off from painting today and went over to Raymond Terrace to the Step Back Into King Street Heritage Festival.
It has been a beautiful sunny day and who would think that in less than two weeks time it will be winter.
One of the highlights of the festival were these fabulous Morris Dancers. I haven't seen Morris Dancers for years so this was a real treat for me.
I am going to have a lazy evening because I came home with a splitting headache, probably caused by the fact that until I got home late this afternoon I had only had one cup of tea today. I have made up for it since I got home though. I am sure I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't drink enough tea, hence the headache, ha ha.
David coped quite well today with his back problems, but had to do lots of sitting down on occasion.
We had a lovely lunch at the pub so I don't have to cook dinner this evening.
Looks like a great festival. I have never heard of Morris Dancers. They look like they must dance quite a jig. So much happening in your neck of the woods. Glad your headache went. Have another cuppa:)
I really enjoy seeing the morris dancers , a a lovely cheerful picture....btw thank you for all your recent comments Babs We have been busy in the garden also work in the house going on so have not had time to make many comments
Lovely capture Babs, surprised to see Morris Dancing has made it all the way to Oz, this shot could be any where in England, thanks for the interesting link, as for Lady Morris Dancers with men I've not seen that also like Hazel, but have see all female Morris and Clog dancing teams:) @quietpurplehaze
Ooh I I do love to see the Morris Dancers dancing away -- Glad you had a nice day out and David was not in too much pain --I can empathise with him as I also suffer with this complaint - I can not spell or pronounce it !! -- but mine is of the degenerative kind !
@365projectorgjenfurj Thanks Jen. I haven't seen Morris Dancers for years it was great to watch them.
Definitely going to drink more tea today. I always get a headache when I am short on tea.
@quietpurplehaze Give it a go Hazel. We once had Morris dancers visit the Officers Mess when David was in the RAF and we could all have a go at dancing, it was great fun.
We used to have folk dancing at school when I was a child and I loved it.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. I think the women Morris dancers came in with the 'equality' laws, but they are stricter in the UK where they can't dance with the men. Here we are okay with it I think. There were four women in this group.
@777margo@pusspup@seattlite@ladymagpie@mittens@carolmw@craftymeg@lyndamcg@maskerade@happypat Thanks. I haven't seen Morris dancers for years. It isn't as popular in Australia. I believe they do go around to folk festivals etc. There were four women in this group. Of course, not all of the men and women performed in each dance. It was a long day for them and I bet they were shattered by the end. No wonder I had a headache by the end of yesterday, I was worn out just watching them. It was a lovely day.
@salza Thanks Sally. If you look at the link you can see this group performing in Canberra. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pb7JJNMZjs
Headache much better today thanks. Just needed a top up of tea.
@beryl Thanks Beryl, it was a lovely day. David managed quite well but did a lot of sitting too to ease his back. Sorry to hear that you have the same problem. David broke his back when he was in the RAF and as a result two of the little hooks that join each vertebrae to the next one are missing, hence the dislocation occurs if he just moves in the wrong place sometimes. never knows when it is going to happen though.
@dianeburns Thanks Dianne. I did have water with me and drank plenty of it, but I was very short on tea ha ha. I do have problems with my neck though so that probably caused the headache really. Carrying camera, water bottle, purse, mobile phone, keys etc. plays havoc with my neck.
@inthecloud5 Thanks Christine, it was a beautiful day. Can't believe it will be winter in two weeks time. The weather at the moment is gorgeous and it hasn't rained for weeks.
It's great that there are still people around who know how to dance like this. We watched some Greek dancing yesterday, and out of a troupe of 20, they said only 3 were Greek. It makes you wonder if it will all die out.
@888rachel Morris Dancing is very big in the UK, but hasn't travelled here so much. I think you have to go to Melbourne to see Greek dancing. there are more Greeks in Melbourne than there are in Greece.
