A Walk in the Woods by onewing

A Walk in the Woods

I love lichen on trees. Also I remember now why I prefer to walk on the beach and not in the bush.

While out for a walk in bushland taking photos of fungi, flowers, tree bark etc I also managed to stand in a gang of bull ants. After doing quite a dance to get rid of them and stop them climbing up my legs I still managed to get bitten by a couple of them and they bloody well hurt too.

On our return home David felt something tickling his head and discovered that he had brought a tick home with him. Luckily he found it before it dug itself in.

I think I will stick to walking on the beach for a while and give bushland a miss. If I do return to the bush I will stay on the paths.

I will be posting photos from our walk in the woods over the next week and this is the first shot.

I like the lichen's pattern on the trunks.

Wonderful tones and textures Babs:)

Love the lichen patterns on the tree trunks ,but I think I would rather to admire them from afar than encounter all of the mentioned nasties -- Keep tp the lovely beaches Babs
October 1st, 2016
Well, was the lovely shot worth the nasties?!
October 1st, 2016
Don't envy you the insects but the trees are beautiful Babs
October 1st, 2016
lovely shot and nice processing. Ticks are bad at the moment. Lost count of how many we picked up last weekend at the coast - and they did burrow in! :(
October 1st, 2016
Bull ants are aggressive nasty arse critters and I cannot see that they provide any earthly purpose other than harassing us. I feel your pain Babs. Nice shot BTW :)
October 1st, 2016
It looks like a fairly dense wood. Shame about the bull ants & tick....if I lived near the beach, I know where I'd be walking :)
October 1st, 2016

Nice shot I have similar problem visiting Rutland Water every time I go I usually come back with a lot of mosquito bites! Fortunately no bull ants over here...
October 1st, 2016
That is some considerable agro you went through for this charming shot. I can see your reservations about going back but I am looking forward to the rest of your woodland shots.
October 1st, 2016
The trees look beautiful , but I would stick to the sea shore
October 1st, 2016
What misadventures Babs, oh no! I've never encountered bull ants, I'm sorry they're so painful. The trees look so nice though :)
October 1st, 2016
The lichen makes such lovely patterns, sorry to hear of your misadventures :)
October 1st, 2016

How lovely.
October 1st, 2016
Nice lines, textures and lichens, super capture
October 1st, 2016
This is wonderful -- a great way to use texture to create the final result -- it's beautifully composed.
October 1st, 2016
I think the beach is my perfect place to walk, but this photo is rather beautiful
October 1st, 2016
Beautiful lichen covered tree trunks but I would definitely steer clear of all that woodland wildlife! Is there any danger of snakes too?
October 1st, 2016
Fascinating to see how covered the trees are. Like how you have shown them. Shame you can't walk freely in the bush land.
October 1st, 2016
This actually looks really good on black too.
October 1st, 2016
The lichen gives a great texture to the trees
October 1st, 2016
Lovely textures!
October 1st, 2016
Great shot and I love the textures.

October 2nd, 2016
Grand shot of nature...Fav
October 2nd, 2016
@ethelperry David seems to attract them all. He has a really bad reaction to march flies especially too.
October 2nd, 2016
@gigiflower Hello Sam, good to hear from you. Hope you are well.
October 2nd, 2016
@beryl @quietpurplehaze @thistle It was still a lovely walk in spite of the nasties.
October 2nd, 2016
@pusspup David always attracts ticks.
October 2nd, 2016
@hermann The pain has gone now. I lathered the bites in Stingoes.
October 2nd, 2016
@leggzy David was looking for birds to photograph and I just followed. I'll stick to the paths in future, or at least the well trodden bits of bush.
October 2nd, 2016
@happysnaps Ha ha, it was an impressive dance
October 2nd, 2016
@rjb71 We usually leave the bush at mozzie time, or cover ourselves with aerogard.
October 2nd, 2016
@helenhall I can usually avoid bull ants because they are easy to spot. It is just that I was crouched down taking a photo of fungi and didn't see them. David regularly finds ticks though, or rather they find him, ha ha.
October 2nd, 2016
@snowy Probably a wise move Diana.
October 2nd, 2016
@kerosene @merrelyn @jennywren Thanks. David regularly collects a tick, touch wood they leave me alone and the bull ants I usually spot, but I was taking photos and missed seeing them.
October 2nd, 2016
@happypat Thanks Pat. Yes there is a possibility of snakes. Usually red bellied black snakes in this area, but they generally stay away from people.
October 2nd, 2016
You had a big adventure, beautiful capture of the trees.
October 2nd, 2016
Beautiful image Babs, really makes me want to be there, but not with ants and ticks! David was lucky he retrieved that tick from his head, they are very nasty insects indeed.
October 2nd, 2016
Such wonderful lichen on these trees, great shot
October 2nd, 2016
A fabulous shot. I love it.
October 2nd, 2016
Fabulous textures.
October 2nd, 2016
Pretty lichen and trees. I am so sorry to read of what happened though :( I remember as a kid being attacked by red ants - that hurt and I hate ticks with a vengeance - had to pull them off the dogs a few times! I hope you are both ok now.
October 2nd, 2016
Sounds like quite an episode you've both had there. A nice capture though. Lovely coloring on the tree trunks 😉
October 2nd, 2016
lovely shot but quite an adventure
October 2nd, 2016
Nice textures...
October 3rd, 2016
I love the colours of the lichen on the trees. My biggest fear waling through the bush are the snakes.
October 4th, 2016
Great textures and lines:)
October 7th, 2016
I like the textures and the lines however not sure about the ticks and ants.
