I love lichen on trees. Also I remember now why I prefer to walk on the beach and not in the bush.
While out for a walk in bushland taking photos of fungi, flowers, tree bark etc I also managed to stand in a gang of bull ants. After doing quite a dance to get rid of them and stop them climbing up my legs I still managed to get bitten by a couple of them and they bloody well hurt too.
On our return home David felt something tickling his head and discovered that he had brought a tick home with him. Luckily he found it before it dug itself in.
I think I will stick to walking on the beach for a while and give bushland a miss. If I do return to the bush I will stay on the paths.
I will be posting photos from our walk in the woods over the next week and this is the first shot.
Love the lichen patterns on the tree trunks ,but I think I would rather to admire them from afar than encounter all of the mentioned nasties -- Keep tp the lovely beaches Babs
lovely shot and nice processing. Ticks are bad at the moment. Lost count of how many we picked up last weekend at the coast - and they did burrow in! :(
Bull ants are aggressive nasty arse critters and I cannot see that they provide any earthly purpose other than harassing us. I feel your pain Babs. Nice shot BTW :)
Nice shot I have similar problem visiting Rutland Water every time I go I usually come back with a lot of mosquito bites! Fortunately no bull ants over here...
That is some considerable agro you went through for this charming shot. I can see your reservations about going back but I am looking forward to the rest of your woodland shots.
@helenhall I can usually avoid bull ants because they are easy to spot. It is just that I was crouched down taking a photo of fungi and didn't see them. David regularly finds ticks though, or rather they find him, ha ha.
@kerosene@merrelyn@jennywren Thanks. David regularly collects a tick, touch wood they leave me alone and the bull ants I usually spot, but I was taking photos and missed seeing them.
Beautiful image Babs, really makes me want to be there, but not with ants and ticks! David was lucky he retrieved that tick from his head, they are very nasty insects indeed.
Pretty lichen and trees. I am so sorry to read of what happened though :( I remember as a kid being attacked by red ants - that hurt and I hate ticks with a vengeance - had to pull them off the dogs a few times! I hope you are both ok now.
