Welcome to Maitland by onewing

Welcome to Maitland

Sorry I am a bit absent at the moment, a busy time here, we were out last night and are out again tonight too.

This is the town crier welcoming the train and passengers to Maitland at the Steamfest.

This is the train we had a ride on to Branxton and back to Maitland. A very enjoyable ride.
proud man

love to see a Town Crier. When we were passing through Chester. UK a few years we chanced upon a International Town Crier competition. Their cries and costumes were magnificent and we even saw one from Australia.

@rjb71 His personality did match his outfit. I had a chat to him earlier and also took a photo of him, before I knew he was going to welcome this train which we rode on to Branxton and back to Maitland.

@olivetreeann Although this train isn't terribly old, it is a vintage train, It was built in the 1930s in Redfern, Sydney and has S Class street side corridor carriages. I am going to post a shot of one of the carriages today.

@cruiser A town crier competition must have been a sight to see.

I have a friend who is a town crier. He absolutely revels in the role and gets involved in all sorts of events because of it. Certainly a job for someone with a good sense of humour and slightly eccentric character!

Nice capture Babs, how vey British! Did he say Oyez Oyez before making an announcement?
