Today's posting is another of the churches in Paterson. St Columba's church was built in 1884, with a porch and sacristy added in 1926.
I have to admit I had never heard of St Columba so I had to Google him. Apparently he was an Irish abbot and missionary born AD 521 and credited with spreading Christianity in what is today Scotland at the start of the Hiberno-Scottish mission.
It's interesting to catch these shots. It would be great if you could have gone inside. St Columba is fairly well known in Catholic circles in the UK. The Knights of St Columba is a Catholic fraternal organisation. It describes itself as being dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. However, only so far - it doesn't admit women apparently!
The door looks like it is blanked. Maybe they just chose a poor colour to paint it. Regardless, you have driven me to look up a little bit of history. I didn't know previously that St Columba was connected with Iona.
Nice photo. I don't recall ever going to Paterson.
No sorority then? (Good ole Google!)
A distinctive church, Babs.
