Such a strange looking bird and so big interesting capture Babs, my niece has then around her place in South Mission Beach QLD, we managed to see one out the back of her property one time, as soon as I got my camera it disappeared into the shrubbery:)
They have striking colours but can do a lot of damage apparently. I came across one on the side of the road and didn't realise they were dangerous until someone called out and told me to be careful. Of course I was trying to get a photo. https://365project.org/bella_ss/365/2012-08-31
@onewing My niece warned us not to get to close but it just wondered off into the bushes, Kym's garden is open at the back and said she's pleased the swimming pool is fenced didn't fancy finding one in the pool on morning:)
@bella_ss Its such a lovely beach and area to visit Sheralee, good job we were with my niece when I first saw one would have possibly got to close and tried taking a photograph, btw my niece lives at South Mission Beach and has a crop spraying business flying out of Tully Airstrip :)
@pcoulson Small world hey Peter. There are quite a few 365ers that live within a few hours of my daughter in Canada.
I agree, Mission Beach is in a beautiful area.
@nickspicsnz @stakade I think the cassowary and emus are descendants of the moa.
@pcoulson @bella_ss Crikey you were brave, not so sure I would like to encounter one in the wild.
