Waiting for the Tram by onewing

Waiting for the Tram

I am a bit late posting tonight because we have been at a barbeque at a friends house.

Today's photo follows on from yesterday's shot of Newcastle Interchange station at Wickham.

This cardboard tram is as far as they have got with the light rail so far, so the people could be waiting for a while.

The new light rail will run from this station at Wickham to Newcastle East, a distance of 2.7 km and is expected to cost $400 million dollars.

The light rail is expected to be up and running during 2019, so still a while to go yet.

Looks like the light rail is taking over Australia. The light rail in Canberra is slowly being built.

Looks very modern.
January 6th, 2018
I wonder if the tram will look as swish as the cardboard version.

Interesting cardboard version. Hope the real life version is up and running soon

Trains have finally been built for Dallas, everything is so far apart here that buses couldn’t get people across town fast enough. They are a great way to move a lot of people in any given day. This is a beautiful mock up of the real thing, very sleek!

With the cost of the rest of the system, it makes me wonder they were charged for the cardboard version :)

Someone who had a few too many drinks might try to board that cardboard version, LOL.

An interesting trompe d’oeil!

Nice shot, very colourful tram

I suppose it’s inevitable, but I am always surprised when Aussie places have names of English towns.
January 6th, 2018
Hee hee

A very effective cardboard train! I truly thought it was a smart red train! Looking to the future then & not that long to wait in the scheme of these things!
January 6th, 2018
I hope those people aren't waiting to get on that tram, they'll be there a while!

Toronto has been having discussions for years about light rail versus subway. Of course, we have weather issues to consider. The longer they argue the more costly it becomes.
January 6th, 2018
That is the best looking cardboard tram ever, I wonder how much that cost :)
January 6th, 2018
You had me fooled Babs, because I didn't realise it was cardboard before reading your narrative. Lets hope there is something more useful pulling in on the other side of the platform.
January 7th, 2018
You fool me to but I did have a big smile on it. Thanks for the laugh.
January 7th, 2018
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was the real tram. Cool shot! :-)
January 7th, 2018
So interesting that it is cardboard!

If only the real thing was so easy to construct. @carole_sandford A lot of our cities are named after English places because the early settlers thought they looked like their English counterparts. Newcastle was named because of the steel works. It reminded the settlers of Newcastle in the UK.

Great capture!

It does look real. Wonder what it cost.
January 7th, 2018

January 7th, 2018
Great document shot -- you fooled me til I read your commentary. I thought it looked quite streamlined.
January 7th, 2018
Ha ha ha, I thought it was a real tram until I read your write - up. Well it looks quite impressive I guess.
January 7th, 2018
We lost our train station and the daily train to the city years ago. I wondered what the cardboard tram was going to be :)
January 8th, 2018
Could have fooled me that it's a cardboard train. I'd probably be standing at the door for hours waiting to enter. Nice shot!
January 8th, 2018
LOL, so this is the cardboard tram. I was wondering...
