Many of you will have heard that 100% of New South Wales is in drought at the moment and as a result over 80 fires are currently burning across the State.
We have three fires in our area, this one at Salt Ash, (I took this photo from the Gan Gan lookout last night). Salt Ash is about 25 km away from us and this fire has burnt out over 800 hectares of land so far. Today the fire is out of control.
We have another fire burning at Medowie about 35 km away from us and the closest fire is at Box Beach, Shoal Bay which started this morning and, I suspect deliberately lit. Shoal Bay is about 6 km from where I live.
OMG how scary for you Babs! The thought that some fires are started deliberately is insane but that’s what has been happening here up in Derbyshire on the moors. I hope they catch the culprits that started your fires! Stay safe!
Interesting image of the unfolding drama looks terrifying Babs, unusually we are experiencing moorland fires in Yorkshire following our long dry spell :)
Yikes, I think it I dangerous to live so close to these fires - take care and stay safe. Who could that ruffian who started the fire be and for what possible reason?
@pamknowler@maggiemae@365projectorgjenfurj@dizzyd@pcoulson@ethelperry@casablanca@gmonty@susie1205@hermann@sangwann@julzmaioro@kgolab@skippysue@helenhall@lyndamcg@jacqbb Sorry for the group reply, but I am just off to bed. We have been checking the state of the fires on the Internet. Our closest one at Shoal Bay is under control. but the Salt Ash fire is still out of control and is heading towards Tanilba Bay and Lemon Tree Passage. It has burnt out 1500 hectares so far (15 sq km)
There aren't any farms in this area Julia, so livestock is quite safe. It is mainly thick bushland. I don't know if this fire was deliberately lit, but three fires suddenly started burning pretty close to each other at the same time. I think the Shoal Bay fire was deliberately lit though. Warm dry weather always brings out the loonies.
How horrific, a wonderful shot but such a terrible reason for it. Many of our terrible fires are also set on purpose. Hope it will be under control soon and that you will be safe.
It's unthinkable that there are bush fires raging at this time of year, when everything should be still wet from winter. It's hard to imagine, that there are such awful people in the world that they get their kicks out of making a awful situation even worse for the people of their own country.
@golftragic Back up to emergency again we have just heard due to the strong winds. 2000 hectares burnt out now. I think the fire is right up to Tilligery Creek and almost lapping Tanilba Bay. The thing is, if it was deliberately lit it would probably be someone from Tanilba who lit it.
Looks good on black Babs. Quite scary really even from a distance. We've had torrential rain in Moraira but we're not there. Just hope the garage isn't flooded when we get back.
The threat of fire would be a scary thing to me. I'm sorry to hear your area is in such a traumatic state. I can't believe someone would deliberately light a fire under such condition, but then again, I can. People can be some of the stupidest, self-centered creatures on the face of this earth. In spite of the cause, it's a beautiful shot!
Stay safe Babs
So dramatic,please stay safe.

@deborah63 It has been so dry this winter. We haven't had any rain since the end of June. Bushland is like a tinderbox.
