We have lived in our current house for 22 years and for all of that time and even longer there has been a shell museum about 400 metres from our house. It is in fact just a room at the front of an old gentleman's house but it is open 7 days a week from 9 am to 5 pm and we have never visited.
While Paul and Val were here we said we had better go and see it as the chap who owns it is pretty old and it may not be there much longer, so off we went.
It only costs 50 cents per person, and it isn't a fantastic place, but at least we have crossed it off the list. He has a huge collection of shells.
I am slowly catching up with 365 but it may take a couple of days before I am up and running properly though.
I am out this evening so I won't be able to catch up much until tomorrow.
A gorgeous collage with all these beautiful shells. Amazing that you never went before. A wonderful collection of urchins, did he collect them all, or did he have helpers?
I think it's great he's found a way to make a living with his shell collection- good for him. His museum actually sounds a lot like the one I went to recently with all the Americana stuff and motorcycles- only this one is all about shells. I like your collage- it actually looks like a collection box he might have on display. Very nice!
@ludwigsdiana He inherited the collection from the previous owner about 40 years ago apparently. The original chap was a diver and all the shells etc in the collection were what he had collected while he was diving all over the world.
@pusspup@ethelperry I love shells too and David and I do have a bowl of shells on our dining room table, the shells were ones he collected while he was in Gan in the Maldive Islands when he was in the RAF.
@tinley23@angelar Yes, glad we finally visited. When we lived in Cyprus for 3 years we used to pass Kolossi Castle every day on our way to work and yet David never went there. I visited it once though.
@olivetreeann I don't think he actually earns a living with the museum, it is just a hobby I feel. It only costs 50 cents each and so he got $2 for the four of us and Val bought a shell too that cost $2.50. I don't suppose too many other people visited that day, so $4.50 a day isn't going to pay the bills.
@lindasees @beryl @happysnaps @peadar @pcoulson @joansmor @gijsje @photographycrazy @merrelyn @carolmw @susiemc @casablanca @haskar @yaorenliu @sdutoit @elisasaeter @pyrrhula @seattlite Thanks, it is quite a collection.
