Until about four years ago we used to see scaly breasted lorikeets regularly in our garden and then we had a sub tropical cyclone here and thousands of our birds and wildlife lost their lives in the storm.
It was so exciting a few days ago to see this pair of scaly breasted lorikeets on our bird bath. They have visited a few times since I took this photo and hopefully there will be youngsters appearing before too long.
oh so sad, these are so beautiful - I haven't seen much of them for a while but did get some lovely shots of some here last month. this is a great capture
@ludwigsdiana it wasn't just a storm it was an east coast low which is kind of sub tropical cyclone and the one where we lost so many birds, also uprooted hundreds of trees and we had no power for 5 days. It was quite dramatic
I would never have thought that so many birds lose their lives in storms, but I did wonder where they hide. Quite sad
@terryliv They play quite nicely together with the rainbow lorikeets in our garden and even get to share the seed in our feeders.
@julzmaioro We still have plenty of rainbow lorikeets in our garden every day but I guess some have gone across the ditch for a holiday.
