Unusual insect

Not seen one of these before. Is it a type of fly or a moth? It was over half and inch long.

I wasn't sure if it was an insect with a sting looking at that red tail. Any ideas?

Could it be a young May Fly....just on TV now, the older ones seem to have longish tails but younger ones shorter...only a shot in the dark!

@taffy yesterday was exhausting as all the furniture came out of storage. It’s looking like home again - although we have too much furniture and it would have been nice to have all new! Definitely not in the near future though! All the books and “stuff” which went upstairs now has to come down again and a home found for it. Slowly slowly though as my knees are complaining loudly!
