This is one of my favourite shots I have ever taken. I went on a photography day to a sanctuary in Kent which has Big Cats. A fabulous day and to see the huge cats up so close was mind blowing. I would never have thought of converting this tiger shot to B&W if it wasn't for our mentoring group's theme this week which is High Contrast B&W. As I can't get out I am looking at some old shots and trying a comversion where I think I can get high contrast. I think this works and I will be interested to see what you think.
Many thanks for your comments on yesterday's efforts. I feel I have finally understood high contrast which is thanks to you all for your great encouraging comments.
@pamknowler WOW -- this one came out wonderfully in b&w. I'm glad you are having fun with it. After doing over a month of b&w this past winter, I now almost prefer it for the artistic possibilities.
what a fabulous shot. i think this is a fab high contrast image, and just because the shot is so good, would love to seethe colour version too . i am tempted by doing a photography day at a zoo. to get up closer to these amazing animals must be an experience!
@jo13 I loved the day Jo and took hundreds of shots of tigers, lions, cheetahs, leapards plus some smaller cats. It's the luck of the drawer i think with any animal photograhy day - the weather plays a part and will they perform? For me it was worth it just to be inches away from a tiger and lion. I will never be able to see them on safari so this was the next best thing for me.
I really like this shot Pam. I saw the colour version first and I think that's much more powerful shot. I love the lines and patterns in this version though, it is more artistic, but the eyes lack that hungry look.
Pam, this is a great high contrast shot. It looks so artistic, and like you, I would never have thought to convert it. While the colour one draws you to the eyes, this shows the pattern. Lovely.
