100 Strangers : No. 10 : Rosa by phil_howcroft

100 Strangers : No. 10 : Rosa

This is Rosa, she is the mother of portrait number 9 (Anne).

She is a palmist and clairvoyant and was working in the the next door caravan to Anne at the Nottingham Goose Fair.

Rosa is the niece of the famous Gypsy Rosa.

Rosa's has not studied from books, but was given the gift at birth.

Rosa was quite busy, she had two reading while I was talking and taking pictures with Anne and her family

Rosa is stood in the door of her caravan, so I was looking up to her to get the photo

I hope Rosa likes this shot , when she sees the prints. She looks quite serious with her gaze, quite soulful

This picture is number 10 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
I can't tell if she is pleased or impatient with you. I think she is adept at hiding her true feelings. Another great portrait, Phil.

She looks quite ordinary - not at all gypsy like! Her mouth is a bit severe - not sure whether its you or just natural!

It's a good portrait at the caravan door I think which gives it context. I note the origin of Anne's lovely red hair. It must be quite difficult giving readings - so as not to upset folk too much. (I'm a sceptic, I have to say).

Nice portrait - I'm sure she'll be pleased with it. Did you have your palm read?

I don't believe in palm reading or card reading. But Rosa seems to take her work very seriously. Another beautiful portrait, Phil. Keep them coming.

Btw Billy didn't say a word while he was with me. Ian says he's still to young.

Yes, definitely wistful and also no-nonsense but compassionate, I would think. I like how you've used colour, it speaks of a warmth in her personality that might not be quite so easily seen in b&w. Nicely judged, Phil.
