100 Strangers : No. 58 : Holly by phil_howcroft

100 Strangers : No. 58 : Holly

Jane spotted an advert for a Steampunk Market at Nottingham's Sneinton Market and suggested it might be a good venue for photo opportunities.

I agreed with her and also thought it would be good for some stranger photos as the steampunk community are very open to being photographed.

The market opened at 11am today (10 December) so I was there at 11 am !!

As I was walking around the market I spotted some bright yellow shutters and thought they would make a good backdrop to a photo.

When I saw Holly setting up her market stall in her red hat and turquoise / blue coat, I knew she would look great against the shutters.

I introduced myself to Holly on her stall and asked her for a photo and also asked if she would come with me to the yellow shutters.

Holly has been a steampunk for over 5 years. She has also been a landlady in a Nottingham pub.

I told her that the event didn't appear to be publicised too much as I hadn't seen that much advertising.

Holly then told me she had organised the event and it had been quite well publicised on Facebook. I smiled and said I had been reading all about it on Facebook, so that bit was working.

I showed Holly her pictures on the back of my camera and she agreed that the colour combinations worked well,

I gave Holly a card with my contact details (I have had some cards printed to give to strangers....Vistaprint ...a competitive price and good quality). Oh and Holly is the first person I've given a card too :) .

I told Holly I would find her on Facebook and post her picture on her photostream.

I am sure you agree, that the combination of location, the yellow shutters, Holly's outfit and smile make for a cracking photo.

Edited in Darktable, with a crop to remove some graffiti and adjustments to saturation and contrast.

This picture is number 58 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

Love that hat, Phil. Such a contrast between the hat and the size of the lady. A wonderful portrait as usual and great contrasting colours.

Glad you included her heart tattoo. It goes very well with her smiling face. I agree, the color combination is striking.

@myhrhelper thanks Kathy that's very kind of you . I tried to retrospectively put all my strangers in one "365 strangers folder" but it was too big a job , so the 400+ strangers just appear on my main 365 feed . I'm trying to tag them all with a unique tag , but even that's a big job !
