We went to the Nottingham Green Festival yesterday at the Nottingham Arboretum. It was a really good event on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
It was an excellent event to capture some strangers for my project. My first stranger from the event is Marita Metelia Robinson.
Marita is a very talented singer, songwriter and performing artist from St. Anns in Nottingham.
I saw Marita walking towards the bandstand area of the park and was struck by her outfit and style.
"Excuse me are you one of the performers here today?"
"Yes, I am in a band, we are on stage at 5 o'clock, we were told to start setting up by about 4 o'clock"
"Is it OK to take your photo, I am an amateur photographer doing a project on street photographer meeting strangers?"
"Yes. that's OK"
"What kind of band are you?"
"We are influenced by Soul, Reggea, African Music, Dance, Brass are you going to stay and watch us, perhaps I will convince you to come and see us again"
"Yes, I'm with my wife and whippet dog, we are sat over there on the grass"
"What's the name of your band?"
"Bendigo"
"Bendigo, Ahh right , there was a famous boxer from Nottingham called Bendigo"
"Yes that's right, we are named after him" (I think I impressed Marita with my knowledge of Bendigo :)
"Are you from Nottingham?" (that's me asking btw)
"Yes are you?"
"Yes, I come from Arnold"
"St. Anns"
I take a few shot of Marita and show her them on the back of the camera.
"They look really good with the green background"
"Thanks, but I've noticed your hair is covering your left eye. Can we do some more?"
i shoot some more shots of Marita, trying not to get people in the background as it was a busy park.
"Shall I email you some pics"
"We don't need to do that, have you got a phone are you on Facebook?
"Yes", so I open Facebook
"Message Me, so I know it's you, I don't accept anyone as I get lots of requests"
"How do I do that, I am quite new to Facebook"
I hand my phone to Marita.
"Oh you don't have messenger, I will download it"
Marita downloads messenger onto my phone, but it still won't open.
"i'll send you a friend request, what's your name"
"Phil Howcroft"
"Ahh I've found you , is that you Phil?, your profile lets anybody send you a friend request Phil "
I look on Marita;s phone and see my profile pic of me and my whippet !!!
Marita request arrives and we are Facebook friends.
So that was the photoshoot, as for the music, Marita was really good, a high energy performance, that went down well with everybody watching and dancing in the park.
I mentioned the park was busy and this shot had a couple of people walking through the trees on the bottom right hand side of the frame. You may be able to tell that I have cloned them out by extending the tree background into the corner.
I posted several shots from the meeting onto Marita's Facebook page and Marita and her friends all seem to like them :)
